Portlaoise EDIC are delighted to host the Europe Direct Soapbox Competition once again. This year things are a little different, applicants are asked convince our judges for or against the motion 'Everyone wants to go back to the pre-covid way of life'. Entries can be in the under eighteen category or over nineteen category. To register your interest simply email europedirect@laoiscoco.ie to receive an application form and entry details. Be in with a chance to win an Ipad mini and progress to the national final where you could win €1000! The closing date for entries is Friday 20th November.

Laois Libraries and Europe Direct Portlaoise are delighted to welcome back Aurélie from Aurelie Languages for Spanish classes through Zoom.

Join Aurélie on Saturday mornings at 10.30am, starting this Saturday, the 30th October, and running for a 6 week course. Whether you are planning that holiday to Spain or just want to embrace the challenge of learning a new language, this is the perfect opportunity for beginners to start their Spanish language journey.

Entrants are asked to get on their soapbox and talk for 3 minutes on this years topic, 'Is Europe Listening to it's Young People.' To enter, simply record a 3 minute video voicing your opinion and email us along with your application to europedirect@laoiscoco.ie. There are 2 categories under 16, and 17 and over.

Remember the closing date for entries is 21st November, why not enter to be in with a chance of representing your region and of winning €1000 at the National Final!

During the workshop with Createschool, the participants will learn how to generate ideas & script a short podcast, how to find & record their voice & other sounds, how to edit on mobile devices, add music & create a logo for their podcast. They will also learn how to share and showcase their podcast with the world! This is a free event, but booking is essential.
